Patti Colen is a self taught fibre artist who uses traditional fibre techniques to tell stories about the world around her. She often marries her love of documentary photography with her observation of the human condition to create contemporary fibre art. Patti gathers her inspiration from travel, social and political issues as well as current events. Her work currently focuses on society’s treatment of marginalized groups, particularly women’s experiences.

Patti’s work can be seen in The Art of Motherhood: Our Lives in Colour and Shadow (Ed. Karen D Miller 2022) and Celebration 30. She has contributed articles to Rug Hooking Magazine, Ontario Hooked Craft Guild and Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia’s The Loop. Patti has presented to various fibre art guilds, professional organizations and In The Studio Online speaker series. Patti’s work has been included in Every Child Matters (RHGNS) traveling exhibit, selected for I Choose Therefore I AM 2023 exhibit (Houston TX) and ArtComp2023 (London ON). She has been featured in the London Free Press.

A fibre enthusiast since childhood embracing all forms of handwork, Patti has focused her creative passion on storytelling through contemporary rug hooking since 2017. She lives in London ON with her husband B.D. and three miniature dachshunds.
